Scope and Contents

The Catherine Varner Papers consist of correspondence received from three soldiers in the Civil War: John Adams (future husband), E.H. Frank (friend), and James Stallcop (cousin). The letters detail life in Army camps during the war, battles the soldiers fought in, and life before the war. Varner lived in Iowa during that time.

Scope and Contents

The David Coon Papers consist of photocopied letters that were typewritten from the originals. The letters were sent to Coon's wife and children describing his first day of enlistment and subsequent events. Coon wrote about the physical examinations, camplife, the daily activities of the regiment, preparations for battles and dissatisfaction with a colonel. Also included are concerns about money and suggestions to his wife on how to handle the family farm in his absence.

The Earl R. Hoover Papers consist of material regarding B.R. Handy, a Civil War era songwriter from Ohio.

Contains records, scrapbooks, event programs, and other items related to the activities and history of the Willis A. Gorman Post 6 and the Willis A. Gorman Woman's Relief Corps # 2.

Scope and Contents The Gunder Salverson Papers contain materials regarding his service in the Union Army during the Civil War.  Salverson was a private in Company F, First Battalion of the California Volunteers, also known as the California Mountaineers.  Most of the materials concern Salverson's pension after the war.  Salverson suffered from rheumatism and heart disease. Scope and Contents The Lewers Family Correspondence contains incoming and outgoing letters of several members of the Lewers family. Included are letters from Hugh Saxton Lewers to his wife, Pattie, while he served during the American Civil War. Scope and Contents The provenance and donor of the Masonic Lodge Records is unknown. The collection contains over one hundred miscellaneous photographs, many of which have regional ties. A number of photographs depict the Native American tribes of the region, as well as artifacts they created.
