Lewers Family Correspondence

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: OGLMC-613

Scope and Contents

The Lewers Family Correspondence contains incoming and outgoing letters of several members of the Lewers family. Included are letters from Hugh Saxton Lewers to his wife, Pattie, while he served during the American Civil War. The original finding aid created for this collection indicates that Lewers served in the Union Army; a database, "U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865" (maintained by the National Park Service and accessed through Ancestry Library Edition), shows Lewers as being a Confederate soldier from Mississippi. Also included are the letters of Lee Lewers, the son of Hugh and Pattie. The donor, Frederick Lewers Bennett of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, loaned the originals for duplication in April 1981.
