This series contains several unique artifacts related to the 164^th’s service in World War II. Included are a Hawaiian tapa blanket, soil from the memorial at Guadalcanal, a captured Japanese flag with names inscribed, a captured Japanese Kyū guntō (old military sword), a Fijian grass skirt, bracelet, Kava bowl, a Higgins boat tiller wheel, and framed items.

The first series contains documents related to the early history of the 164th Infantry Regiment, when it was known as the Dakota Territory Militia and the 1st North Dakota Infantry Regiment.  The primary focus is on the earliest days of the regiment prior to statehood, as well as the regiment’s role in the Mexican Border Conflict from 1916-1917.

Issued by the North Dakota National Guard, likely for the 50th anniversary parade at Camp Grafton in 1992.

Contains several collar devices related to the 164th, including crossed rifle devices (Army insignia for the Infantry), Americal Division patches, and a North Dakota National Guard marksmanship award.
