L. Bacon Notebook
Scope and Contents
This loose leaf notebook consists of handwritten lecture notes by a student who took a series of nursing courses in 1924 and 1925. The name on the cover is L. Bacon. The notebook contains 112 pages, although several are blank. The first date in the notebook is October 14, 1924, while the final date is January 12, 1925. The vast majority of the entries, however, are undated. On the first page, L. Bacon noted that the courses regarded "Practical Nursing: Theory and Practice of Nursing." Many of the entries refer to specific lecture numbers. The notes are extremely practical: how to make a patient's bed, how to take a pulse, how to give an injection, etc. The handwriting is legible and the notes were written with a combination of pencil and pen. The notebook is definitely local, as a newspaper clipping in its pages references an alumnae bazaar at Kappa Alpha Theta on Saturday, November 29, 1924. This group is a Greek social sorority which has been active on the UND campus since 1911. That same clipping also contains an advertisement for the Kozy Luncheonette, which was a Grand Forks restaurant located at 105 North 3rd Street. Biographical or Historical Information
L. Bacon was a student who took courses in nursing in 1924 until 1925. Where the classes were taught remains unknown. L. Bacon does not appear to have taken the courses at the University of North Dakota, as there is no listing for a student with that name in the directories nor with the UND Alumni Association. Nursing courses were also offered at St. Michael's Hospital and Deaconess Hospital, both of which were in Grand Forks. No nurse with the last name of Bacon was listed as a graduate of either program.
