Roy W. Frazier Papers

"Roy W. Frazier came to North Dakota in the capacity of a school teacher, later homesteaded in what is now Divide County, and has been a prominent leader in politics in his section of the state. He was postmaster of Crosby for two years and is now county superintendent of highways. Mr. Frazier was born in Illinois, April 7, 1883, son of H. E. and Mattie (Clymer) Frazier. His parents were born in Indiana, moved to Illinois about 1882, but in 1885 returned to Indiana, where the father died July 31, 1929, at the age of seventy-four, and the mother is still living at Elmwood, Indiana, at seventy-two. She is a descendant of George Clymer, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Roy W. Frazier attended public schools in Indiana, was a student in the Valparaiso University in the state, and during 1903-05 taught school in that state. It was in the fall of 1905 that Mr. Frazier came to North Dakota, locating in that part of Williams County which is now Divide County.  He taught school for about three years.  While teaching he filed on a homestead.  He took a prominent part in organizing a new township, and for his activity in that direction the township was given his name.  He held every office in the township.  In 1918 he was elected clerk of the District Court for Divide County, serving until January 1925.  Mr. Frazier was chairman of the Republican state central committee from 1922 to 1926, and he was manager of the campaign of Governor Frazier for the United States Senate in 1922.  Mr. Frazier was appointed postmaster of Crosby on March 21, 1927, and held the office from April 1 of that year until March 1, 1929, when he became county superintendent of highways.  His administration of the post office was highly satisfactory to all the patrons of the office, and he has received a special letter of commendation and appreciation for his work on the county highways from the county commissioners.  Mr. Frazier is a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen and is a Presbyterian. He married, May 4, 1904, at Curtisville, Indiana, Miss Grace Cropper, or Tipton County.  They have one son, Melvin S., who was born at Bowbells, North Dakota, July 30, 1907.  He graduated from the Crosby High School in 1924 and is now a student in George Washington University at Washington, D.C."
