Francis H. Templeton Papers
Scope and Contents
The Francis H. Templeton Papers consist of his auto-biography, entitled "Circus How-It's-Done Memories: Part 1, Big Top Ups and Downs." This book was published by Templeton in 1955 and concerns his lifelong love of and interest in, circuses. Also included are several photographs of Templeton's life until 1966, the occasion of his 50 year UND Class Reunion.

Biographical or Historical Information
Francis Horatio Templeton was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on May 29, 1892, the son of Charles and Edna (Carleton) Templeton. Francis Templeton graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor's of Law Degree in 1916. He was drafted into the United States Army on March 29, 1918. He served as a member of the Signal Corps for several different battalions during the First World War. He was overseas from July 15, 1918, until May 6, 1919, before separating from the Army later that month. He earned a Master of Laws degree from George Washington University in 1921. He worked as both a patent examiner and a patent lawyer for the United States Patent Office. He also nurtured a lifelong love and appreciation of the circus. Francis Templeton died on November 16, 1968, in Washington, D.C.
