John Erle Grinnell Papers
Scope and Contents
The John Erle Grinnell Papers consist of two items written by Grinnell. "Away from Spring" is a work of fiction that depicts campus life at UND during 1916 and 1917. "The Mooncalves of the University of North Dakota" is an essay describing the history of this student organization and its members. Both works are undated.

Biographical or Historical Information
John Erle Grinnell was born July 10, 1896, in North Dakota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1921 and received graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota and Stanford University. He spent a long career in education at both the high school and college levels. He died February 12, 1990, in San Luis Obispo, California and is buried in Cooperstown, North Dakota.
