Rosendal Norwegian Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church Records
Scope and Contents
The Rosendal Norwegian Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church Records date from 1891 to 2003. The vast majority of the material, however, dates from 1891, when the church was founded, until it closed in 1991. Materials in the collection include pastoral records (births, marriages, and funerals), secretary’s log books, financial information, guest books, and correspondence. Materials related to various church organizations, including Ladies Aid (also known as the American Lutheran Church Women), the Luther League (for young people), and the Sunday School, are also present. Finally, the collection also contains the church’s Articles of Incorporation and a publication from its 60th Anniversary. The collection consists of two archival boxes, as well as one roll of microfilm which duplicates the pastoral records and secretary’s log books.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Rosendal (or Rosendahl) Norwegian Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church (also known as Rosendal Lutheran Church) was located near Reynolds, North Dakota, in Bentru Township, Grand Forks County. The Church became incorporated with the state in 1892, but had formed a year prior on March 1, 1891. The first church building was destroyed by a tornado on July 15, 1902. Three of the eight people in the church were injured during the tornado, while one of these, Ole Loring, later died. After being rebuilt during 1903 and 1904, the second church’s bell tower was struck by lightning in July 1930. In June 1981, the church celebrated its 90th anniversary. Unfortunately, due to dwindling membership and funding, the Rosendal Lutheran Church was razed in 1991, and the grounds turned into the Rosendal Lutheran Cemetery, which is still in use.
