Biographical or Historical Information

Lyle Huseby was born on December 26, 1916, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  He lived there until moving to Fargo to finish his last year of high school.  He then spent one year at the North Dakota Agricultural College before transferring to the University of North Dakota.  While in college he was a member of the Hesperia literary society and the oratory fraternity Delta Sigma Rho.  In addition, he was a distinguished member of the debate team, and compiled a long list of achievements, including winning the State Peace Contest.  Huseby graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1942 and served as a First Lieutenant throughout World War II.  He was discharged in February 1946.  After his discharge, he opened a law office in Fargo.  Huseby used his talents in both private practice and in public service. He served from 1955 to 1962 as the Cass County States Attorney. He was elected commander of the Fargo chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and was an active supporter of the Republican Party.  In addition, he was a state representative to the United Nations League of Lawyers, President of the Cass County Bar Association, and President of the North Dakota State Attorney Association.  Furthermore, Huseby lectured on law at Moorhead State University and North Dakota State University. Throughout his career, Huseby handled a great variety of legal cases.  However, he was best known as a criminal defense attorney. Huseby died on June 7, 1977, at the age of 60.
