Biographical or Historical Information
"Cherry Monson, 84, of Devils Lake died on Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Cherry will be Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Warwick Lutheran Church, Warwick, ND. Rev. David Nichols will officiate with burial in the spring in the Warwick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be in the church one hour prior to services. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Cory Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Cathy Myrum, Carmen Anderson, Deanna Anderson and Randy Myrum.
Cherry Martha Monson was born January 23, 1922 to Oscar and Cherrie (Lane) Wood in Lohnes Township, Benson County, rural Warwick, North Dakota. She attended Lohnes Country Grade School and graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1939. On November 15, 1942 she was united in marriage to Lester “Jim” Monson at Warwick, ND where they established their home. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught school for 5 years in North Dakota. In 1964, Cherry received her teaching degree from Valley City State Teachers College and taught primary grades in Oregon and in California for 20 years. Mr. Monson died in 1968. Cherry was interested in family history, local history and was the founder of the Brenorsome Museum in Warwick. She was a member of Warwick Lutheran Church and Pioneer Daughters. Cherry is survived by daughter and son-in-law: Cherrie Lane and Bernard “Buzz” Anderson, Warwick, ND Grandchildren: Cory Anderson, Warwick, ND Kevin and (Deanna) Anderson, Devils Lake, ND Cathy and (Randy) Myrum, Petersburg Carmen Anderson, Devils Lake Four Great Grandchildren: Lance and Jaylee Anderson Crystal and Kaitlyn Myrum Sisters-In-Laws: Averiel Wood, Cleo Deplazes, Marge Wood and Carol Maisel Other Special Family: Becky Starr and her husband Mike Harris and children Nia Hawkins, Candace Varela and her husband Sam and their daughter Azrea, C.J. Hawkins and Spencer Harris all of California. Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; brothers, Irving, Burton, Robert, Paul and Jerry Wood; sister, Emmeline Pruitt."
