Biographical or Historical Information
The North Dakota Academy of Science (NDAS) was organized in December 1908 at the meeting of the State Educational Association. The first meeting was held May 21, 1909, with Melvin Brannon of UND as president, C.B. Waldron of NDSU as vice president, and Lynn Banks McMullen of Valley City as secretary-treasurer. It was designated the official state academy for science in 1959. Beginning in 1947, NDAS has issued a serial publication called Proceedings of the North Dakota Academy of Science. The organization and publication remain active, with annual meetings alternating between academic institutions in North Dakota.
