Biographical or Historical Information

"Elisabeth P. Lewis, 68, 817 Belmont Road, died Sunday, March 12, 1989 in her home. The family requests memorials be sent to the Humane Society of Grand Forks. Arrangements are with Hanson-Anderson Mortuary, Grand Forks. Elisabeth P. Lewis was born June 26, 1920, in Urbana, Ill., the daughter of Howard and Mildred Lewis. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Mich., and attended the University of Michigan there, receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in music. She also studied at Yale University and in New York City. After graduating, she taught at Sullins College in Virginia. In 1949, she moved to Grand Forks, where she taught violin and voice at Wesley College. She later was an associate professor of music at UND, retiring in 1984. Since retirement, she continued to concertize in North Dakota and Michigan. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Lewis, Grand Forks." Source: Grand Forks Herald, 15 March 1989
