Biographical or Historical Information
Project Reclamation had five major elements: to "characterize representative abandoned surface-coal mines in North Dakota as to (a) relief, land use, and other observations, (b) vegetation and (c) spoil properties, (2) classify minesites; (3) select representative mine sites for future studies, (4) develop a list of plant species adapted to mined land stresses and (5) review literature on current techniques for enhancing revegetation on abandoned mine lands in North Dakota-like conditions." The project was administered by the University of North Dakota and was supported by the North Dakota Public Service Commission and the Bureau of Mines in the United States Department of the Interior.
