Scope and Contents

The Twin Forks Chapter of Professional Secretaries International Records date from 1963 to 1991 and consist of correspondence, membership lists, budgetary material, and newspaper clippings.  Also included are numerous photographs dating from 1972 to 1983, which depict various members, often at Chapter-sponsored events such as Bosses Breakfast, Boss of the Year, Secretary of the Year, and Secretary Week. Four scrapbooks document events such as dinners, meetings, elections, and seminars from 1963 to 1980. Scrapbook materials include newspaper clippings, photographs, Christmas cards, announcements, and correspondence.

Biographical or Historical Information

Professional Secretaries International is a nonprofit association founded in 1942 to improve secretarial performance standards through continuing education. The organization became international in 1954, with the addition of Canadian chapters. By 1997, PSI spanned five continents and claimed a combined total of over 9,000 non-U.S. affiliated members. The Twin Forks Chapter of Grand Forks, North Dakota held its first meeting on October 4, 1963. Sponsored by members of the Red River Chapter of Fargo, North Dakota, it was the second chapter formed in the state. The Twin Forks Chapter is a member of the Minnesota-North Dakota Division, which consists of 14 chapters in the two states. The group meets monthly and combines business and social activities. Activities include seminars, conventions and hosting speakers. The Twin Forks Chapter-PSI is affiliated with the United Way and the Arthritis Foundation.
