Scope and Contents

The Kathie Anderson Papers consist of North Dakota Council on the Arts materials dating from 1977 to 1989. They include minutes and agendas from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, 1980-1985; general correspondence, 1979-1988; newsletters and publications, 1977-1988; publications and resumes for Artists-In-Residence program,1981-1988; Artist-In-School program publications and correspondence, 1980-1987; grant applications to the North Dakota Council on the Arts, 1980-1983 and miscellaneous materials. The material within each specific category is arranged chronologically. The first addition to the Kathie Anderson Papers contains material that Anderson published throughout her career, including manuscripts and finished works. Most of the second addition contains materials related to the North Dakota Writer's Conference dating from 1970-1990.

Biographical or Historical Information

Kathie Anderson graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. in English in 1972 and an M.A. in American Literature in 1981. She began her teaching career at Grand Forks Central High School in 1972. She taught all areas of English, speech and journalism courses, and was adviser for the school newspaper and literary publications. In 1979 she became a graduate teaching assistant for UND's Department of English. By fall of 1982 she was lecturer in the Department of Journalism. She also taught for the School of Communications and coordinated the introductory communication writing skills lecture and computer labs. Anderson is the author of Dakota: The Literary Heritage of North Dakota and has written numerous articles for UND Alumni Review, North Dakota Horizons, and North Dakota History. Anderson has been recognized in Who's Who in North Dakota and was selected as 1975 outstanding young career woman in Bismarck and North Dakota. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa educational honorary societies, Kappa Tau Alpha journalism scholarship society, North Dakota Press Women, and a council member of North Dakota Council on the Arts.
