Biographical or Historical Information
Cooperative Education is a program of Career Services and allows students to get work experience in the course of their college career. Cooperative Education was first funded at the University of North Dakota (UND) in 1985 by President Clifford. In 1987, the University Senate voted to treat Cooperative Education students, who were working forty or more hours a week, as full-time students. From 1987 to 1996, Cooperative Education was partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. As of 2003-04, there were a total of 561 students enrolled in Cooperative Education. Forty-eight different academic programs at UND currently offer Cooperative Education as a credit option to their students.
