Biographical or Historical Information

The development of the Grand Forks Chapter of the North Dakota Audubon Society was initiated by Kenneth Sherwood in his letter to the National Audubon Society in 1970. The Grand Forks Chapter was granted a Provisional Chapter Charter by the National Audubon Society on March 1, 1971, and received the Chapter Charter on March 1, 1973. The purpose of the Audubon Society is to promote understanding and appreciation of the necessity for a quality environment which is essential for the survival and well-being of all species of life.
