The Lillian Bolack Papers includes an essay written by Bolack entitled "Pushing Back the Frontiers: A Pioneer Family in Rye Township, Grand Forks, North Dakota." The paper is 28 pages long and relates stories of Alfred Bolack's life as a child, husband, and father, along with his five brothers and six sisters, dating back to 1858. Alfred Bolack moved from Ohio to North Dakota around 1873, where he started a farm near what is now Larimore and eventually moved closer to Grand Forks.

Biographical or Historical Information

Lillian Elizabeth Bolack was born November 15, 1906, to Alfred and Caroline (Ritter) Bolack. Lillian had two sisters and one brother. She attended Rye No. 2 school in Grand Forks County, which was two miles from where the family lived. Lillian graduated from St. James Academy in Grand Forks, and her family regularly attended St. Michael's Church. She lived on the farm with her brother, Alfred. In 1988, she moved to St. Anne's Guest Home. Lillian Bolack died September 11, 1995, at United Hospital in Grand Forks.
