Chester Sampson Papers
Scope and Contents
The Chester Sampson Papers consist of an audit report of the Farmers' Union Oil Company in Edmore, North Dakota, from 1936-1937. Also included is a “Farm Account Book” for Sampson’s Lazy SS Ranch, dated 1936.

Biographical or Historical Information
Chester Carl Oliver Sampson was born in Park River, North Dakota, on September 8, 1896. He was inducted into the United States Army on November 5, 1918, and was sent to Fargo where he served in the Students Army Training Corps at North Dakota Agricultural College. With the end of World War I, he was discharged on December 20, 1918.
He married Thelma Ann Lowe of Westhope, North Dakota, in February 1920. The couple had seven children: Ada, Ole, Alda, Constance, Carol, Oliver, and Lowe. Sampson operated the Lazy SS Ranch, a farm in Triumph Township, Ramsey County. Prior to WWII he established an outstanding herd of Ayrshire milk cows and after the war switched to grains and registered polled Herefords.
Chester Sampson died in June 1975, followed by his wife, Thelma, in November 1976.
