"Respectable Information, Responsible Lobbying, and a 'Lady-Like Image: How Activists Successfully Lobbied for the Equal Rights Amendment in North Dakota" by Sandra Kruse (2017 Winning Paper)

The Merrifield Competition is sponsored by the Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections and the Department of History. The annual competition awards a $1,000 scholarship to the UND student who writes the most outstanding scholarly research paper which utilizes primary source material from Special Collections. The winner is chosen by a jury of four UND faculty members. The Competition is named in honor of Webster Merrifield, UND’s first Librarian and third President.
