Scope and Contents
The principal recipient and correspondent is Allette Mosher (1864-1945). Other recipients and correspondents include: Eliza Keyes (1848-1903), mother of Allette; Warren and Viola Pierce, Allette’s sister and brother-in-law, (1856-1870); Inez Mosher (1886-1924), Allette’s daughter; and Gladys Mosher (1932-1933), Allette’s granddaughter. The correspondence deals with the everyday concerns, including farming, health, and the lives of family members in Kansas, New York, North Dakota, and Michigan. Included are documents concerning the death of Thomas Batty and the efforts of Allette to receive her Civil War widow’s pension. There is also correspondence with a relative in the Pacific during World War II.
