Scope and Contents

"These were always heavily starched. She actually sent me out to play in starched and ironed dresses. Most of my pre-school play clothes were made by older cousins, aunts--anyone but my mother who hated sewing. She mended because she had to. All the little dresses were made with matching underpants right through the first grade. Sunday dresses were generally store bought, Cinderella frocks from the Fair Store in Valley City."
