Quilt made by Honorè Savard, 1865

 Item — Box: 4
Identifier: Item 1

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

"Born in 1832, Honorè was a ship designer working in the Quebec shipyards until they burned. He later settled in Walsh County and is buried in Drayton. He designed many quilts, one of which won an award in England. This is his only quilt still in existence, perhaps because he considered it one of his lesser works, and it was stored away in the attic. In 1949, Polly Trost Savard and Roma Savard Osowski found the quilt top and added the backing. The fabric and thread of the top came from France." Source: A Century of Quilts: An Exhibit of North Dakota Quilts in Honor of One Hundred Years of Statehood, 1889-1989. Fargo, N.D. : Quilters' Guild of North Dakota, 1989. The quilt was donated to Special Collections by Evelyn Landis, Inkster, North Dakota, on November 23, 2009 (2010-2982). Landis is Savard's great granddaughter.
