1888-1959; UND class of 1911, playwright and poet. Won Pulitzer Prize in 1933 and the New York Critics Circle Award in 1935 and 1936. Honored in first Literary Landmark of North Dakota in 2022.

Scope and Contents Joan Eades, a graduate student in the English Department at the University of North Dakota, was commissioned by the Alumni Office to write “Beacon Over Our Western Land: The First One Hundred Years of the University of North Dakota” to kick off the University’s Centennial in 1983.
